January 2023 Update

Philakade welcomed the new year in with a compassion workshop for all staff members.  We asked the current group of students nearing the end of their training to look after the residents during the workshop.

The facilitators gave our staff  time and space to reflect on their inner journeys and explore ways of strengthening their support systems and behaviours / methods / techniques used to build more relaxation, laughter and rest into their daily lives.

They also looked at recognizing more quickly,  the things that cause stress and anxiety.

The two sessions made use of clay and movement with the help of drums.

The wheelchair track, designed by the residents to run through the garden is almost complete and they are looking forward to using this outdoor exercise track.

The white elephant project is underway, clothing and other items are sorted as they arrive and we are very grateful to the volunteers who help with this.

We were hoping to open our coffee shop this month but the process of decorating and stocking is taking longer than expected and we are hoping to hear from suppliers re donations of equipment this coming week.

We’ll keep you updated for the grand opening!

To date, Philakade has admitted 187 children and adults with disabilities who were previously destitute, abandoned or neglected, or whose families were struggling and no longer able to care for them.

From everyone at Philakade – we wish you a happy and peaceful 2023 and a deepening experience of the presence of Love.
